Generate Traffic to your Website

Sunday, January 24th, 2010

Are you wanting to increase the flow of traffic to your website? What is it going to take for you to accomplish this?

Naturally, having a website is a necessary requirement. However, this will by no means be enough. What you need, besides getting a high page rank with search engine optimization, is to increase the flow of traffic to your site.

Here are some simple steps to help you get started generating traffic.

Article Writing

Article writing is an effective method of generating traffic to your website. You’re probably thinking that there is no way that you could do this. You may not think that you have any writing capabilities at all. However, you might surprise yourself at what you are able to do. You do not have to be a published author to write an article. Utilize the knowledge that you already have from your area of expertise. You can also research some different topics or businesses online and then write a short review about what you learned.

You could write something about the products or services that you offer. Just make sure to give a balanced review and not use too much hype. If you make your article sound like an ad, the article submission service will treat it like a press release and not accept it.

The most important part of your article is to include a link to your website in the resource box. Every submission gives your website a quality incoming link.

Pay Per Click

If you want to spend a few dollars to generate traffic to your website, you should give pay per click (PPC) advertising a try. PPC gives you a spot in the search engines where you advertise a link to your website. We all know how wildly popular Google is, so you will definitely bring traffic to your site. A major thing is controlling your cost per click. You can spend a lot of money in a short amount of time if you are not keeping a close eye on your campaign.

Spectacular Website

The most important thing that you can do to make sure that you keep prospects interested in your website is to have a phenomenal capture page. This will be vital to your success. If you are able to get prospects to your site, you do not want to disappoint them with a less than impressive website.

You should include a photo of you and your family, an audio or video message from yourself, and a lead capture box. The more personalized your site is, the more your prospects can gain an emotional connection to you. That is what will encourage them to join you.

Generating traffic to your site will take some trial and error. However, once you master this principle, your business will soar.

Get Targeted Traffic to Your Website!

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

Everyone who has a website knows that to have sales you must have traffic, but not just any traffic it has to be targeted traffic.

What is Targeted traffic? It is simply visitors to your website that are interested in what your website is about. For example, people interested in buying jewellery will find jewellery websites interesting.

How do I get targeted traffic I hear you ask? The following are tried and tested methods:

Forums: Subscribe to forums that discuss your topic. Answer questions and join in the debates there. Become an expert in the field. Then with each article reply you write have a discreet link to your website in the signature file. What can be placed in your signature is often determined by the forum moderators. Do not spam the forum or you will be stopped from posting. This is one of the most productive ways of getting free traffic as those who click your link have already read and liked your style.

Linking from/to other websites: Contact website owners that have similar but not competitive websites to yours, ask them for a reciprocal link from their website to yours. Be sure to select your link partner to match closely your customer profile. Software programs such as Arelis are very helpful in this process.

E-Zines: Contact e-zine owners that have your target readership and buy advertisements from them. Be sure to have a test run to see that the return on investment is sufficient to cover the costs involved. If you are buying an extended run of advertisements haggle with the e-zine owner over price. You may save a considerable amount.

Newsletters: When people visit your website offer them something of value for free if they sign up to your newsletter (like an e-Book). Your newsletter should be written tightly geared towards your topic. It should be published regularly at weekly intervals.

E-Books: Often used, these are usually free informational books for your clients and for others to give away free if they leave your links in the book itself. You can place links back to your website in the books you sell or give to your clients.

Joint Ventures: Contact online marketers looking for new products to sell. They often have large mailing lists with eager to buy customers. Normally they are willing to email their list for a cut of the sale price. This works particularly well with informational products. It has several advantages. It can give a very sizeable boost to both your sales and mailing list within a very short period.

Buy Traffic: This is probably the cheapest in terms of time and most expensive money wise. It gives a traffic boost normally within 30 days. What are you buying? You are buying traffic from expired domain names which the company selling the traffic has bought. They are domain names still registered on the search engines which get a considerable amount of traffic. The previous domain name owners have either lost interest in the name or simply forgot to renew the registration. This means that the traffic from the expired domain name is simply redirected to your website. This is usually high quality traffic as only websites with traffic such as you want is redirected to you. As always, a test run to see if this traffic is suitable should be undertaken.

When you combine these techniques and apply them consistently over time you will find a rich source of targeted traffic coming to your website. This, combined with quality products will ensure the success of your online business.

How To Increase Traffic To Your Website

Friday, November 27th, 2009

Ok, so, I think we all know where you want to be, or at least where you want your webpage to be, and that is within the first ten results on page one of Google search. Page two and page three may not be too bad because people will sometimes click to view these pages, but the number of visitors to sites below position ten in the Google serps drops off dramatically due to the results not being on page one.

Of course, you can always play the advertising game. There is nothing to stop you going and paying various organisations heaps of money, both online and offline to get the traffic to your website. You could use pay per click advertising such as Google Adwords, but nothing, absolutely nothing compares to getting traffic for free from the search engines because your site makes it to page one on the results pages.

The problem comes in achieving that position and staying there. Just how is it possible to be in the first ten results from a keyword search that may yield millions of results overall?

One tried and tested way is through link building. This is fairly straight forward, although it is laborious (although you could pay someone to do it for you). All you need to do is use that very same search engine and search for websites which have content related to yours. Then, you need to email the webmaster of that site and ask them to link back to you. It helps if you have already placed a link from your site to theirs to show your sincerity. This is called reciprocal linking and helps Google and the other search engines gauge the popularity of your website. The more links you have pointing towards your site, in theory, the higher up the search engine results pages your site will go.

Another proven method of increasing the likelihood that your site will be visited is to write an article related to the subject of your site and post it to the many free articles sites that are out there. You will need to place a link to your site somewhere within the article. The idea is that your articles will be freely available to download for anyone wanting content for their site or blog. When they use your article they have to leave the links intact, so as they get traffic to their sites and their visitors view your article, some of them will click on the link and visit your site too. This method also increases the number of links back to your site and so, you guessed it, further up the search results your site goes.

There are a number of other simple things to remember though when trying to drive more traffic to your websites, and I have included some of them here:

1: Hard work. You are running a business and so you need to work at it. The work I am talking about comes from your marketing efforts but also from developing good quality content for your site. There is no point driving traffic to your site if there is nothing of substance for them to engage with when they arrive. Your visitors will simply leave, having bought nothing and having not clicked on any of your Adsense ads (because the boring nature of your site will be reflected in the boring nature of the Adsense ads servedĀ on it).

2: Learn all you can. There are lots of free resources which will tell you everything you need to know (I will tell you about another at the end of this article) to be successful online. There is no need to pay for anything. All the info you need is out there. You just need to know where to look. Beware, if a traffic generation method looks like it is too good to be true, then it probably is. Significant increases in traffic will not materialise overnight, you have to work at it. So, if you are being asked to hand over $97 for the ultimate traffic generation system that promises you will be a millionaire within seven days, I can almost guarantee that it will be a waste of money and that the information contained within the product is out there waiting for you to discover it, for nothing.

3: Find sites that are related to yours and pay particular attention to those which show up on the first two or three pages of the search results for your chosen keywords or search phrase. They are obviously doing something right. Look how the pages are constructed. Look how the articles are constructed. Don’t copy them directly, and especially not the content, but make mental notes regarding how you could do things better with your sites.

4: Decide on a strategy for driving traffic to your site and then work hard to achieve it. If you think the best strategy for your site would be to write lots of useful articles which you will give away, then get on and write the articles. Don’t dawdle – just do it! Also, don’t discount article writing if you think you don’t know how to write, there are plenty of people out there who will do this for you for pocket money. Try your local college. Students always need beer money in their pockets. If you can’t find a student then look online, try somewhere like Elance.com.

5: Set realistic goals and work hard to achieve them. Don’t set yourself too high a target. You will only get demoralised when you don’t achieve it.

In point 2 above I said I would tell you about a free resource which will help you with your online marketing efforts. Well, here it is. There is a guy by the name of Harvey Segal and he has done some of the work I talk about above for you by gathering together lots of useful information and re-producing it in e-book form.
